W1 signalled a major redevelopment of the BBC’s most famous building – its original home,
Broadcasting House – to create the largest live broadcast centre anywhere in the world, ever.
Set in the heart of London, and with 17,000 lorry loads of rubbish alone leaving the site, the two phase project demanded a security and traffic management solution of the highest calibre.
During these works, thousands of protesters regularly tried to gain access to the site as they
voiced their opinions on the broadcaster’s coverage of the Gulf War. Throughout, Elliott Thomas successfully ensured that nobody breached its security.
