Specialist contractor Elliott Thomas has bagged three separate BAA awards at Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 (T5) – highlighting the firm’s dedicated approach to safety and professionalism over the last 12 months.
The firm was awarded the prestigious High Five accolade by BAA for going over and above normal duties. Presented by BAA’s Jonathan Adams, who is leading the baggage project at T5, Elliott Thomas received the award at a ceremony on site.
As well as the High Five award two further accolades were presented to Elliott Thomas; the first for team motivation and good work practice, and a second for stringent Health & Safety standards.
Fielding a team of seven operatives, Elliott Thomas is providing waste management services for T5’s 18km long baggage handling conveyer belts. The rolling contract, awarded by Vanderlande Industries and to a value of £25k per month, has been running since August and involves a range of co-ordinated site waste collection, management and disposal services.
Elliott Thomas’ waste clearance operatives are in place to ensure safe and efficient working conditions for site workers, whilst maintaining sustainable construction. Trade debris, off-cuts and hazardous materials are removed on a daily basis by the team, and stored in dedicated areas.
Also at BAA, Elliott Thomas won a £1.4 million pound contract from main contractor Mace Ltd to carry out waste management work. In addition, Balfour Beatty has awarded Elliott Thomas a rolling contract to provide a full logistics package for its Track Transit System, involving waste management, materials handling and distribution, fire safety and welfare management.
